Planning and Paragraphs practice for Years 3–6
English · Writing and Editing · Key Stage 2. Planning, paragraphs, cohesion and proof-reading.
What your child will learn
- Plan writing by learning from similar texts, recording ideas in a sensible order, and planning settings, characters and plot.
- Draft sentences with a varied and rich vocabulary and a range of sentence structures, creating settings and characters.
- Choose nouns or pronouns appropriately for clarity and cohesion and to avoid repetition, using pronouns accurately.
- Organise paragraphs around a theme and use headings and sub-headings to organise non-narrative writing.
- Build cohesion within and across paragraphs using adverbials of time, place and number, contrast and cause, tense choices, pronouns and repetition.
- Punctuate bullet points consistently and use organisational and layout devices (headings, sub-headings, columns, numbered lists, tables, underlining) to guide the reader.

How BrightWorld helps with planning and paragraphs
Children practise planning and paragraphs at Easy, Medium or Hard, in mixed quizzes, in the Answer Run game and inside story missions. If they get stuck, they get a hint and a worked example; if they’re flying, the questions get harder. Parents see how they’re doing in the parent area.
